Valentines Day Heart Cart

The Valentines Day Heart cart is sure to greeted with ooos and awws.  Fill it with Valentine treats and you will be a hit.

Valentines Day is coming soon so get started on your projects now.  This cart started as as a simple project and then I thought why not just keep adding hearts (lots of different hearts) so that the cart gives the illusion of being packed full with hearts.

So here is the reveal and I will give you general instructions as to how I created this.

Valentines Day Heart Cart

Stamps: Hearts a Flutter (c- 129252, w- 131922, p124 2013/14 Annual Catalogue), Banner Blast (c- 133554, w- 133551, 2014 Sale-a-Bration).

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Baked Brown Sugar, Basic Black, Naturals White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations.

Ink: Primrose Petals, Real Red.

Accessories: Big Shot, Circle Framelits, Hearts a Flutter Framelits, Hearts Collection Framelits, Fashionable Hearts Embosslits, Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, Watercolor Washi Tape, Neutral Candy Dots, Whisper White Bakers Twine, Banner Punch, Owl Builder Punch.

How I Did It

Create Cart

  1. Using Baked Brown Sugar card stock, cut 5″ x 4″and score at 1″ and 4″, turn card stock and score at 1″ and 3″cart (refer to template below).
  2. To create posts – cut 2 pieces of cardboard 3″ x 1/2″ – I used the white cardboard from the Designer Paper packages.  Cover with the solid gold washi tape and set aside.
  3. Cut large wheel from Basic Black card stock with the 2nds smallest circle and from Naturals White, cut wheel using smallest circle (Circles Collection Framelits). Attach an Early Espresso Candy dot to the center of each wheel.

Valentines Day Heart Cart

Create Valentines for cart

  1. Using Real Red ink, stamp hearts from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set on Whisper White card stock.  Die cut using the Hearts a Flutter framelits.
  2. Stamp and die hearts from Primrose Core’dination paper and emboss with Decorative Dots embossing folder.  Using the Stampin’ Sanding System, distress some of the embossed hearts.  This will add some texture.
  3. Cut some hearts using the smaller hearts from the Hearts Collection Framelits using Real Red card stock.
  4. Using the Fashionable Heart embosslit, cut hearts from Real Red card stock and Primrose Core’dination paper.
  5. Attach the hearts to the inside backside of cart, front of cart, back of cart and on each end of cart. Layer the hearts and add as many as you would like.  Start with the inside back of cart placing the hearts.
  6. Attach wheels to each side of cart.
  7. Stamp 3 banners from the Banner Blast stamp set on Whisper White card stock using Real Red ink.  Make one of the banners the “love” banner.  Punch banners using the Banner Punch.  Punch 3 banners from Real Red card stock (these will be used to attach the banners to the Baker’s Twine.
  8. Using the Paper Piercer, pierce one hole in the top of each of the posts.  Cut a 6″ piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine and string through the holes in the post.  Knot the twine.
  9. Attach the banners to the Baker’s Twine using Multipurpose Glue and place one of the Real Red banners behind the stamped banner.
  10. Using the Owl Builder Punch, punch 2 hearts from Real Red card stock and attach on the outside of posts to cover the knots in the Bakers’ Twine.
  11. Fill a cellophane bag with Valentine goodies, tie the top and place in the cart.  Oh so cute!!

My previous post found here, talked about how I spent the day making Valentine cards for my grandchildren while celebrating British Columbia’s first ever Family Day holiday.

First it was the Girly Girl valentine for my granddaughter and now it’s my grandsons’ turn.

How hard can it be to make a Valentine card for your grandsons?  Well, the depends on how old they are.  At 5, its easy.  At 9 not so easy….all that mosh Nan, YUK!

So his card was not filled with a lot of mosh.  I tried to hip it up by using black, white and red and of course, I thought the Soda Pop Tops would help.  Who knows, if it will fly.

Valentine Card

Stamps: Hearts a Flutter ( c – 129252, w- 129249, p11 2013 Spring Catalogue), Ciao, Baby  ( c – 129648, w- 129645 p16 2013 Spring Catalogue), Itty Bitties (w-128939 p.25, 2013 Spring Catalogue,

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Basic Black

Ink: Whisper White Craft Ink, Real Red

Accessories: Big Shot, Hearts A Flutter Framelits, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Argyle Embossing Folder, Versa Mark, White Embossing Powder, Real Red 1/4” Ribbon, Soda Pop Tops.

Have you tried the new Soda Pop Tops?  They are fun embellishments to add to a card, scrapbook page or a 3-D project.  There are 2 different sizes and the Collage Curios stamp set and the  Itty Bitties stamp set are great for the Soda Pop Tops.

Soda Pop Tops

There are 16 tops in total – 8 of 2 different sizes.  At $4.95, they’re a deal.

You can see my youngest grandson’s valentine by going to this link:  http://simplysaidwithkaren.com/whale-you-be-mine-valentine/

He’s still young enough to like some of the mosh!

Today, British Columbia citizens celebrated the first ever Family Day!.  It’s a day for families to spend together and it’s the only holiday now between Christmas/New Years and Easter.

Previous to the Family Day being declared a Provincial Holiday , it was always a very long stretch to Easter.  With winter being dreary, cold and the short days of sunlight, there is a reprieve.

However, there are still those who will not be able to take the holiday today to spend with family and those are the ones who provide services like the police, fireman, health care workers.  Hopefully they will receive an extra day at sometime to take that time with there families.

Of course many families are spread out and can’t spend the time together.  I hope that they have reached out to others to perhaps make their day a little bit better.

So, what did I do?  I spent the time making Valentine Cards for my Grandchildren.  The first one I would like to share is the one for my Granddaughter, the girly girl.!  Of course nothing says Girly Girl like pink.  So, I took some artistic liberty and made Henry a pink polka dotted elephant.  I hope he doesn’t mind.

Henry Valentine

Stamps: Henry Says ( c – 128093, w- 128090, p15 2013 Spring Catalogue

Paper: Real Red, Subtle Stack DSP

Ink: Basic Grey, Real Red

Accessories: Artisan Kit, Whisper White Ribbon, Scallop Oval Punch

This card came together quickly because of the Artisan Kit.  Everything was in one place so I didn’t have to go hunting for the doilies, the resin heart or the tickets.  How divine.

The only thing that took a bit of time was fussy cutting Henry.  That was the least I could do for him when I turned him into a Girly Girl.

This kit is only $11.95 and is worth every penny..

See you next time with my Grandson’s Valentine’s Card

It’s a Chalkboard Valentine for Week 3 of Sale-a-Bration.  If it hadn’t been for Thomas Edison, I wouldn’t have been able to do this card.  It’s Edison’s birthday today and I know I couldn’t live without his inventions…the main one we remember is the invention of the light bulb that shed a whole lot of light on the subject (no pun intended).

Why couldn’t I do this Chalkboard Valentine without Edison?  The biggest reason is that I wouldn’t have been able to see what I was doing.  We are grateful for all Edison’s inventions right down to the heat gun that I used to melt the embossing powder.  Edison didn’t invent the heat gun, but he was the Father of All Inventions.

Hearts a Flutter Clear Mount

Stamps: Hearts a Flutter ( c – 129252, w- 129249, p11 2013 Spring Catalogue), Vintage Verses (2013 SAB), Ciao, Baby  ( c – 129648, w- 129645 p16 2013 Spring Catalogue), Itty Bitties (w-128939 p.25, 2013 Spring Catalogue)

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Basic Black

Ink: Whisper White Craft Ink

Accessories: Versa Mark, White Embossing Powder, Real Red 1/4” Ribbon, Rhinestone Jewels, White Gel Pen

When doing this technique, it is the best to stamp and emboss one image at a time.

Directions:

  1. Cut Whisper White card stock 5-1/2″ X 11″.  Score at 4-1/2″ and fold.
  2. Cut Real Red card stock 4″ x 5-1/4″
  3. Cut Basic Black card stock 3-3/4″ x 5″
  4. Before stamping, wipe the Basic Black card stock with an Embossing Buddy (a used dryer sheet can be substituted).  The Embossing Buddy will help to eliminate the static cling on your card stock so that you won’t get those little flicks of embossing powder showing up on your card.
  5. Using the large heart stamp and a couple of the littler ones,, sayings from the Ciao, Baby and the Vintage Verses randomly stamp on the Basic Black card stock using Versa Mark…this type of stamping will form a collage.
  6. Emboss the images using a heat gun and White Embossing Powder.
  7. Tie a knot in the Real Red ribbon and trim the ends.  Attach to large hear using glue dots.
  8. Attach 3 large rhinestones to the large heart.
  9. Using the White Gel Pen, outline the images…doesn’t have to perfect or straight.
  10. The final step is to make the basic black card stock look like a blackboard by taking a Sponge Dauber and Whisper White Craft Ink and sponge randomly on the card front.
  11. Attach all panels to Whisper White card base.

Have fun with this…it doesn’t have to be perfect and neat.

There, you have it, a perfect Valentine’s card for that special someone.

Happy Stamping

Karen

Have you made someone smile today?

Smiling and laughing can be so good for the spirit and the soul and when a lot of us are in the dregs of winter anything that can help us with our attitudes and well-being is great.  I know that I can certainly use some laughter and smiles as we have hardly seen the sun for a couple of weeks now…and that sunlight sure does help with the attitude.

Try this, the next time you are walking down the street or standing in a line up, smile at someone…and 99% of the time you will get a smile back.  As for the other 1%,they need to lighten up!

Valentine’s Day is coming February 14, 2013 and it’s time to get those heart shaped stamps out and make those cards.  I know we just finished Christmas and New Years.

If you haven’t joined my email list, now is a good time…fill out the form in the top right hand corner of my blog.

Lots of ideas to get you making cards, scrapbook pages (you know those pictures you took at Christmas?) and handy techniques and tips.

Now, I have a question for you…

Are you a maker of cards or a sender of cards?

While we enjoy making the cards, do we actually send them out to people.  Whether you hand deliver or snail mail them, everyone enjoys receiving a card in the mail.  It doesn’t have to be for an occasion, sometimes a “Thinking of You” or a “Hello” card is just the thing to make someones day very happy.

I know I fall into the category of maker vs sender, and one of my new year’s resolutions (or goal) is to get those cards to a well deserving person.

So, I am going to keep a total of the cards I make and the cards I send.  How about you? Are you ready to take up this challenge?

Valentine Card

Stamps: Hearts A Flutter ( c – 129252, w- 129249, p11 2013 Spring Catalogue) , Itty Bitties (w-128939, p 25 2013 Spring Catalogue) Affection Collection ( 2012 Holiday Catalogue)

Paper: Naturals White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations, Whisper White, Raspberry Ripple, Print Poetry DSP Paper Stack

Ink: Summer Starfruit, Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals

Accessories: Big Shot, Hearts A Flutter Framelits, Honeycomb EF, Ribbon Lace (Artisan Embellishments Kit, Stampin’ Sanding System

Yes, I made a template for the honeycomb on the front of the card.  Lots of measuring, but I got it done.  Maybe I could have been smarter and used MDS and then printed it on card stock and used that for a template.

So, I did a template to share with you

Hexagon Template

Just print my gift out on an 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of card stock and use to create those cards to send out.
