Valentines Day Heart Cart

The Valentines Day Heart cart is sure to greeted with ooos and awws.  Fill it with Valentine treats and you will be a hit.

Valentines Day is coming soon so get started on your projects now.  This cart started as as a simple project and then I thought why not just keep adding hearts (lots of different hearts) so that the cart gives the illusion of being packed full with hearts.

So here is the reveal and I will give you general instructions as to how I created this.

Valentines Day Heart Cart

Stamps: Hearts a Flutter (c- 129252, w- 131922, p124 2013/14 Annual Catalogue), Banner Blast (c- 133554, w- 133551, 2014 Sale-a-Bration).

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Baked Brown Sugar, Basic Black, Naturals White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations.

Ink: Primrose Petals, Real Red.

Accessories: Big Shot, Circle Framelits, Hearts a Flutter Framelits, Hearts Collection Framelits, Fashionable Hearts Embosslits, Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, Watercolor Washi Tape, Neutral Candy Dots, Whisper White Bakers Twine, Banner Punch, Owl Builder Punch.

How I Did It

Create Cart

  1. Using Baked Brown Sugar card stock, cut 5″ x 4″and score at 1″ and 4″, turn card stock and score at 1″ and 3″cart (refer to template below).
  2. To create posts – cut 2 pieces of cardboard 3″ x 1/2″ – I used the white cardboard from the Designer Paper packages.  Cover with the solid gold washi tape and set aside.
  3. Cut large wheel from Basic Black card stock with the 2nds smallest circle and from Naturals White, cut wheel using smallest circle (Circles Collection Framelits). Attach an Early Espresso Candy dot to the center of each wheel.

Valentines Day Heart Cart

Create Valentines for cart

  1. Using Real Red ink, stamp hearts from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set on Whisper White card stock.  Die cut using the Hearts a Flutter framelits.
  2. Stamp and die hearts from Primrose Core’dination paper and emboss with Decorative Dots embossing folder.  Using the Stampin’ Sanding System, distress some of the embossed hearts.  This will add some texture.
  3. Cut some hearts using the smaller hearts from the Hearts Collection Framelits using Real Red card stock.
  4. Using the Fashionable Heart embosslit, cut hearts from Real Red card stock and Primrose Core’dination paper.
  5. Attach the hearts to the inside backside of cart, front of cart, back of cart and on each end of cart. Layer the hearts and add as many as you would like.  Start with the inside back of cart placing the hearts.
  6. Attach wheels to each side of cart.
  7. Stamp 3 banners from the Banner Blast stamp set on Whisper White card stock using Real Red ink.  Make one of the banners the “love” banner.  Punch banners using the Banner Punch.  Punch 3 banners from Real Red card stock (these will be used to attach the banners to the Baker’s Twine.
  8. Using the Paper Piercer, pierce one hole in the top of each of the posts.  Cut a 6″ piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine and string through the holes in the post.  Knot the twine.
  9. Attach the banners to the Baker’s Twine using Multipurpose Glue and place one of the Real Red banners behind the stamped banner.
  10. Using the Owl Builder Punch, punch 2 hearts from Real Red card stock and attach on the outside of posts to cover the knots in the Bakers’ Twine.
  11. Fill a cellophane bag with Valentine goodies, tie the top and place in the cart.  Oh so cute!!

Creating a sympathy card means that someone has passed away and no matter why or how it happened makes it very difficult to deal with.

The daughter of a family member, a partner, a mother was involved in a tragic accident and leaves to morn not only her family but her friends as well. To have a young life ended so suddenly makes it even more difficult for those left behind to deal with, especially for her very young son.

Why do these things happen?  Is it being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Is it fate? There are always so many questions left unanswered for those that are left behind.  It is only time that will heal the broken hearts and she will live forever in the hearts of the ones that loved her.

When I designed this sympathy card, I wanted it to be subtle, serene and peaceful.  By using muted colours and accessories that accentuate the serene, I think that I achieved what I set out to do.

I also used a technique that I had not used before, and while I had to redo the image a couple of times, I am satisfied with the effect that I was trying to achieve.  More about the technique later.

Sympathy Card

Stamps: Postage Due (c – 126397 w- 126395 p108 2012/13 Annual Catalogue), Petite Pairs (c – 122497, w- 122495, p134 2012/13 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations, Crumb Cake Neutrals DSP Stack

Ink: Crumb Cake, Primrose Petals, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight

Accessories: Tea Lace Paper Doilies, Artisan Embellishments Kit, White Embossing Powder, Stampin’ Sanding Block, Stamp-a-ma-jig, 1-1/4” Square Punch, 1-3/8” Square Punch, Other: Plastic Container

The Postage Due stamp set is one that I have coveted since it made its appearance in the 2012/13 Annual Catalogue.  Just don’t know why it took me so long to get it.

Postage Due Sympathy

Clear Mount – #126397 Wood Mount – #126392

The technique I used is a form of water colouring and like I said previously, it can take a bit of time to get it right.

  • Using a plastic sheet or case (one large enough to accommodate your stamp), add your colours of choice from reinkers.  I used Primrose Petals, Crumb Cake, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight. Position your inks where you want the various colours to show up on your image.
  • Spray water on your inks so that they begin to swirl and move together.  Don’t mix them too much or they will become muddy.
  • Once you have the inks where you want them, ink up your stamp.
  • Stamp on your card stock and hold a bit longer than usual so that the ink can soak into the card stock
  • Let dry.  You can use your heat gun to speed up the drying process
  • Ink your stamp with Versamark after cleaning it. Using your stamp-a-ma-jig, offset the stamp with the Versamark onto your image.
  • Heat emboss using White Embossing powder.
  • You now have your embossed water colour image.

Give it a try.

Happy Stamping.

The Artisan Kit which has 26 embellishments that can be used to add charm and sophistication to your projects.

What’s in the Artisan Kit?

First, this kit coordinates with Crumb Cake, Primrose Petals, Pool Party and Very Vanilla colours and is a great try me kit.  Plus, there are

  1. 2 designer tags
  2. 4 designer ticket stubs, 18″ scalloped lace
  3. 18″ cotton lace
  4. 18″large oval lace
  5. 1 yard seam binding
  6. 6 paper flowers
  7. 1 resin heart
  8. 2 resin flowers
  9. 5 buttons
  10. 1 heart paper doily
  11. 1 round paper doily

What type of projects can be used with the Artisan Kit?  This kit can be used for a  birthday card, or a wedding card, anniversary card, and also gift packaging and even scrapbooking.

Here is an example of how I used the Artisan kit to make a Birthday card and matching packaging for the gift.

Artisan Kit Birthday Ensemble

Stamps: Collage Curios (c – 129102, w- 129099, p24 2013 Spring Catalogue), Papillon Potpourri (c – 123759, w- 123757, p115 2012/13 Annual Catalogue), Family Reunion (c – 122712, w- 122710, p138 2012/13 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Naturals White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations , Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Crumb Cake DSP Neutrals Stack

Ink: Crumb Cake, Primrose Petals, Lucky Limeade

Accessories: Big Shot, Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder, 1-1/4” Scallop Circle Punch, 1” Circle Punch, Soda Pop Tops, Bitty Butterfly Punch, Elegant Butterfly Punch, Crystal Effects, Markers: Primrose Petals, Lucky Limeade, Artisan Embellishment Kit, Tea Lace Paper Doilies.

 Purse (gift packaging)

Paper: Primrose Petals, Crumb Cake, Crumb Cake DSP Neutrals

Accessories: Big Shot, Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder, Petite Purse Bigz Die, Artisan Kit, Primrose Dalia.

The focal point of the card features a flattened Soda Pop Top (yes, you can run them through the Big Shot).  The images from the Collage Curios stamp set were stamped, punched out and glued into the Soda Pop Top with Crystal Effects.  The whole image was covered with Crystal Effects to give it the resin effect.

The closure for the purse was made using one of the buttons from the Artisan Kit and a Dalia attached to the center.

Have you ever tried the Core’dination Papers?  These papers give a different effect from the standard card stock.  The outside layers are standard Stampin’ Up! colours and the inside layer is a monochromatic colour.  When you distress or emboss this paper, the inside layer is revealed to give a different look.

Valentine’s Day is coming February 14, 2013 and it’s time to get those heart shaped stamps out and make those cards.  I know we just finished Christmas and New Years.

If you haven’t joined my email list, now is a good time…fill out the form in the top right hand corner of my blog.

Lots of ideas to get you making cards, scrapbook pages (you know those pictures you took at Christmas?) and handy techniques and tips.

Now, I have a question for you…

Are you a maker of cards or a sender of cards?

While we enjoy making the cards, do we actually send them out to people.  Whether you hand deliver or snail mail them, everyone enjoys receiving a card in the mail.  It doesn’t have to be for an occasion, sometimes a “Thinking of You” or a “Hello” card is just the thing to make someones day very happy.

I know I fall into the category of maker vs sender, and one of my new year’s resolutions (or goal) is to get those cards to a well deserving person.

So, I am going to keep a total of the cards I make and the cards I send.  How about you? Are you ready to take up this challenge?

Valentine Card

Stamps: Hearts A Flutter ( c – 129252, w- 129249, p11 2013 Spring Catalogue) , Itty Bitties (w-128939, p 25 2013 Spring Catalogue) Affection Collection ( 2012 Holiday Catalogue)

Paper: Naturals White, Primrose Petals Core’dinations, Whisper White, Raspberry Ripple, Print Poetry DSP Paper Stack

Ink: Summer Starfruit, Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals

Accessories: Big Shot, Hearts A Flutter Framelits, Honeycomb EF, Ribbon Lace (Artisan Embellishments Kit, Stampin’ Sanding System

Yes, I made a template for the honeycomb on the front of the card.  Lots of measuring, but I got it done.  Maybe I could have been smarter and used MDS and then printed it on card stock and used that for a template.

So, I did a template to share with you

Hexagon Template

Just print my gift out on an 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of card stock and use to create those cards to send out.
