Ten To Tango Challenge #1

Posted on June 2, 2010 by Karen GilbertJune 2, 2010

Welcome to Wednesday and Ten to Tango Challenge #1
The Ten to Tango off to a good start on our first challenge.  Jenn over at Jax Bean Stalks has set a perfect challenge for June.  The challenge is to make a card depicting or symbolizing the fight against Breast Cancer and then donate that card to the Breast Cancer Foundation or Hospice.  Cancer is such a dreadful disease and I would be hard pressed to find someone that hasn’t been touched in someway.

Everyone is welcome to take part in this challenge and you can find out all the details at Jax Bean Stalks on linking your card, etc.

So,  thank you, Jenn for this special challenge and I am sure that the organizations that the cards are donated to will be thankful as well.

So until next time……

Karen

A Wonderful Lady

Posted on May 31, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 31, 2010

Hi and happy Monday to everyone….it’s a happy Monday even though its been raining and cold and we haven’t seen the sun.  Why you ask?  I was the lucky recipient of the Watermark from Digital Delights.

My card today is a sympathy card for a friend who lost her Mother last week.  She was an elegant lady in so many ways and will certainly be missed by many people.

Recipe

Stamps: Of the Earth, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Whisper White, Going Grey, Pink Pirouette, SU Designer Paper
Ink: Going Grey
Accessories: Big Shot, Texturz Plates – Backgrounds 1, Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Organza Ribbon

This card was built using the layering technique.  However, I stamped the image with the Going Grey and then stamped it off which gives a sense of serenity to the card.

Don’t you just love the Pink Pirouette?  It will be a new colour in the Subtles Collection.  The new cattie will be available July 1, 2010.  Stay tuned for some new and exciting products.

Would you like on of these new catties for free?  Visit my Host a Workshop page to see how you can receive one.

So until next time and may the sun shine between then and now.

Busy Day And A Happy Week

Posted on May 27, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 27, 2010
Hi Everyone:  I have been off this week and it is so nice to get some of the odd jobs done that there just isn’t time to do on a weekend….wash and wax the car, clean the office, go shopping (yeah!!), work on cards and my Stampin’ Up! business (double yeah!).  You will notice that I have also been working on my blog and adding some pages which will take you to my Stampin’ Up! website.
I would like to congradulate Paige who was the successful winner of CSN challenge over at Jax Bean Stalks
The card I am sharing today is a birthday card for Brody.  June is a busy month for birthdays, graduations, Father’s Day and I wanted to get a head start of some of these cards.
Recipe

Stamps: Party Hearty
Paper: Night of Navy, Bravo Burgundy, Brocade Blue, Whisper White
Ink: Bravo Burgundy, Night of Navy,
Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Dazzling Diamonds, Versa Mark, Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint, Brads, So Saffron marker
1. The card base is Night of Navy and the dimensions are 51/2 x 41/4.
2. Layer #2 is the Brocade Blue CS, layer #3 is Bravo Burgundy with Whisper White layered. The “b is for birthday was stamped using Bravo Burgundy with a smooch of the Champagne Mist
3. Layer #4 is half of the Top Note Die and the party hats were stamped using the versa mark and then attached using brads.

4. Finally, the sentiment “party hearty!” was stamped on the Brocade Blue with Night of Navy and the candles stamped using Night of Navy and the So Saffron marker. The candles were given some dazzle with DD.
I thought I would also share another picture from the Kamloops Wildl Life Park.  It’s a golden eagle with its handler.  My goodness it was a very big bird and there certainly was a bond between the two as the handler would rub its head with her chin and he would kiss her back on her cheek.

Happy Monday

Posted on May 24, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 24, 2010
Hi Everyone:  Welcome to Monday, now there is only 4 more to go until the weekend.
Today was a happy Monday as I spent time with my son and daughter-in-law and of course Sagan.  We went out to the Wild Life Park that is one of our local attractions and there were many people out there today as the weather was fairly sunny, not too hot, which meant that alot of the animals were out too.  We have grizzlies, brown bears, cougars, birds of prey and many more.  The park has been in existence for some time so the exhibits have grown over the years.  Here is a picture of Nan getting a kiss while we are riding the train in the park. What is better than a kiss from your grandchildren!!!!
The card I have today is based on MojoMonday 140.  It’s for Lloyd’s daughter who was in a dirt bike accident on Friday and had to have surgery on her knee and leg.  I suspect it will be a long time in healing as she did a pretty good job on the injury.
Recipe

Stamps: Awash with Flowers, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Whisper White, Handsome Hunter, Melon Mambo, DSP (hostess 2009)
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Summer Sun, Rose Red, Soft Suede, and Garden Green
Accessories: Corner Scallop Punch, Curly Label Punch, Grosgrain Ribbon, and Button Latte
1. The card base is Whisper White and the dimensions are 51/2 x 41/4.

2. Layer #2 is the Handsome Hunter CS, layer #3 is a combination of Melon Mambo and the DSP, and layer #4 is whisper white and the 4 corners punched.

3. The new step Awash with flowers was randomly stamped on the whisper white (love the new Stampin’ Up! clear stamps. Makes 2 step stamping so much easier.

4. The sentiment is stamped on 1/3rd of the curly label punch that is adhered to layer #2.

5. Lastly, the ribbon and button are attached using the wonderful glue dots.

Wishing you all the best and until next time……
Karen

Using the Versa Mark Marker

Posted on May 22, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 22, 2010

Hi Everyone and welcome to the weekend.  For some of us it is a long weekend with Victoria Day falling on the Monday.  It is a cloudy day and not very warm, so I’m very glad that I cleaned off the deck yesterday.  Even though it wasn’t warm, at least the sun was shining.

The card I am sharing today is for a friend who lost her 12 year old grandson to cancer.  Such a sad occassion and my thoughts are truly with her.  No one should have to go through the loss of a child or grandchild.

The inspiration for this card came from Kristin Moore over at Split Coast Stampers

Recipe

Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Whisper White, Sahara Sand

Ink: Old Olive
Accessories: Versa Mark (Ink Pad and Marker), White Embossing Powder, Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon, Cricut George Shapes (Cylinder)

1. The card base is Whisper White and the dimensions are 51/2 x 41/4.

2. On the Sahara Sand layer, the Lilies from the Fifth Avenue Floral set were stamped randomly using Versa Mark and embossed with White EP, the stems were stamped using Old Olive. The lilies were coloured in using the Versa Mark marker and stamens coloured with old olive.

3. The sentiment was stamped using old olive on the whisper white tag and attached with dimensional.

4. Finally the ribbon was attached to the bottom of the layer.

Now, I’m off to clean up my office………….yuck

Until next time……
Karen

“Light the Way”

Posted on May 20, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 20, 2010

Hi Everyone:  The card I am sharing today is based on a challenge over at  Jax Bean Stock .  It’s open to everyone so give a check.  There is some blog candy waiting for someone on Monday.  The challenge was created by Jennipher Lowery and there is a special prize for someone who visits Jennipher Lowery’s blog, becomes one of her followers, and leaves her a comment on her current post for that day and mentions her Sketch for the CSN challenge here at Jax Bean Stalks.

The sketch is to be intrepretated as “light” and there are so many possibilities.  The “light” in my card is the sunlight, daylight and of course the light from the candles lighting your way to the birthday cake.  Ok so how many time did I use “light” in that sentence.  Should be worth something.

Actually this card is for Lloyd’s Dad who will be 86 years young in June so the sentiment on the card is very appropriate.

Recipe

Stamps: Happy Moments, Whimsical Words
Paper: Whisper White, Bermuda Blue, Crushed Curry, Sweet Pea DP
Ink: Black Stazon, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Big Shot, Label die cut – Matchbox Die, Pastels, Dazzling Diamonds

1. The card base is Crushed Curry and the dimensions are 51/2 x 41/4
2. A strip of Sweet Pea DP was layered on the card base
3. The Birthday Cake from Happy Moments was stamped on Whisper White with the cake plate, and flowers coloured using the pastels. Dazzling Diamonds glitter was applied to the flame on the candles.
4. The Whisper White layer was layered onto the Bermuda Blue and then attached on an angle to the card base
5. The sentiment was stamped using Chocolate Chip and attached to the card using a dimensional.

This evening is the final episode of “Bones” so will have to watch and see what happens.
So….until next time……

Happy Birthday Maya

Posted on May 14, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 14, 2010

Hi Everyone and it’s Friday.  The weather is incredible, 28 in celsius and about 86 fahrenheit…so you don’t have to convert either way.  And any way you look at it, it’s pretty nice LOL.

The card I am sharing today is for Maya who turns 1 in a couple of weeks.  Maya is Lloyd’s granddaughter and they  live in Japan and  stay in touch through Skype.  This is  great as Lloyd can see Maya as she learns new things and grows and she gets to know her grandpa.

This card was so much fun to make as it could be whimsical and fit for a princess – hence the crown and the shimmery letters.

Recipe

Stamps: Animal Stories, Enjoy Every Moment

Paper: Whisper White, Regal Rose, Real Red, So Saffron, Pink Pirouette

Ink: Basic Grey, Basic Black

Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Circle Punch, Light Blue and Dazzling Diamond Stamping Glitter, Cricut Basic Shapes, Butterfly Embosslit Folder, Black Marker, Champagne Glitter

1. The card base is Whisper White and the dimensions are 51/2 x 41/4.

2. The top note was cut using the pink pirouette CS and attached to the Regal Rose layer.

3. The elephant is stamped using basic grey, adding eyelashes with the black marker and dazzling diamond to her spot.

4. The ball is made with the circle punch, stamped with circles from Enjoy Every Moment stamp set and then the blue glitter added.

5. The elephant and ball were layered on a piece of whisper white with the small butterfly cut from the so saffron attached to her trunk.

6. The crown and the letters were cut with the cricut from whisper white and sponged with champagne shimmer ink

So that’s it for today, and I hope you enjoy.

Until next time…..

Graduation

Posted on May 12, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 12, 2010
Hi Everyone and it’s Wednesday, which can only mean one thing, I am half way through my work week.
The card I am sharing today is made for Brody, Lloyd’s grandson who is graduating from Grade 12 this year.  Brody is not the frilly type, so I hope he likes this card as it is somewhat gender neutral.  Graduation is a pretty special event in lives, as it is the end of one era and the start of another.  Where would we be without moving through our eras.

This card was cased from Nancy R http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1682557 using my own intrepretation.  I really liked the colours, so stuck with them.
Recipe

Stamps: Starring You, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Basic Grey, Going Grey, Whisper White, So Saffron, DSP
Ink: Basic Grey
Accessories: Cricut Basic Shapes, Brads (other), Ribbon (other)

1. The card base is Going Grey and the dimensions are 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.
2. The DSP was layered on Basic Grey, ribbon attached and layered on the card base
3. The whisper white was randomly stamped with the Starring You image and the wording and layered on basic grey.
4. The stars were cut using the Cricut and attached to the whisper white with the brads.
5. Lastly, the sentiment was stamped using Basic Grey on the card base.

Well, I think I have some time to go and finish up another card…any excuse will do to get the ink on the fingers…ok, maybe it’s relaxing, or gratifying, whatever it is, I enjoy.

So, until next time…

Happy Mothers Day

Posted on May 9, 2010 by Karen GilbertMay 9, 2010

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there.  Mothers come in many different forms and one doesn’t necessary have to have children to be a mother.  I consider mothers to have a caring and love for someone or something.

The card today is a Mothers Day card for my daughter.  We just came back from celebrating with the family, my mother, my daughter and my daughter in law, their spouses and children.  It started off to be a picnic, however, we did end up inside as the rain drops started.  It didn’t changed the atmosphere. We had lunch and my son made the dessert…..”Dirt” without the worms.  YEH, Very Good!

Recipe

Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Paper: Brocade Blue, Ballet Blue, Night of Navy, DSP

Ink: Ballet Blue, White Craft Ink

Accessories: Big Shot, Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder, Sweetest Stem Embosslit Die, White Embossing Powder, Pastel

Technique:

1. The card base is Brocade Blud and the dimensions are 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.
2. The Night of Navy was run through the Big Shot using the Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder and the leaves were cut using the Sweetest Stem Embosslit
3. The rose from the Fifth Avenue Floral set was stamped using the White Craft ink and embossed with White EP and coloured in to give dimension to the flower and cut out

This card was cased from CKStamps over at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1684537?&cat=16116 using my own colours, etc.

You will also notice that the new blog group has a new name TEN TO TANGO and the links to the blogs are on the right hand side of my blog.  Give them a visit to see what they are up too.

Until next time………

Karen
