Black and White Thank You Cards

The black and white colour combination is so elegant and striking in its simplicity. It may be because black and white are neutral colours.  However, there are so many uses for this colour combination and I don’t think that I have just used black and white for a card.

I did card sets for gifts lately and put them in a clear lid box and tied them us with a ribbon.  I am going to blow my own horn here because I thought they were so pretty.

Black and White Thank You

Black and White Thank You

Recipe

Stamps: Delicate Doilies (c – 122592, w- 128541, p122 2013/14 Annual Catalogue), Oh Hello (c – 130733, w- 131931, p34 2013/14 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black

Ink: Black Stazon

Accessories: Punches: 2-1/2” Circle, 2-3/8” Scallop Circle,  1-3/4” Scallop Circle, 1-1/4” Scallop Circle, 7/8” Scallop, Silver Glimmer Paper, Basic Black 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon, Rhinestone Jewel, Other: Box with Clear Acetate Lid.

These cards are extremely easy to recreate and you can do stacks of them in no time at all.

The Whisper White card stock is cut at 4″ x 5-1/4″ and then mounted on Basic Black card stock cut at 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.  The black behind the white gives a border to the whole card.

Notice the trim on the left hand side.  It looks like ribbon, however it is Whisper White card stock about 1/2″ wide that has been stamped using the larger doily from the stamp set.  If you are stuck for matching ribbon, this is a great idea.

Of course, you can also make your own box using card stock and window sheets, however, I am lazy and so ordered mine from Uline Shipping Supply Specialists.

Here is the link if you are interested  www.uline.com. When you get to the site, you can choose Canada or the US.  It only took a couple of days to get them.

Give these card sets a try and keep a few on hand for a quick thank you or wrap some up in a black and white ribbon or maybe some red ribbon for gifts.

Happy Stamping

Do you ever use the phrase – “A penny for your thoughts”?  Well, here in Canada, that penny for your thought has now gone to a nickel.

Canadian Penny

Yes, On February 2, 2013, Canada stopped minting the penny.  Why?  Because it costs more to produce the penny than it is worth – actually the cost is 1.6 cents to manufacture.  SO, it’s costing Canadians a mint to mint the penny.  So how is it going to work given that the penny is still in circulation and will be for years to come.

All cash purchases will now be rounded up or down to the nearest nickel – so if your cash purchase is $1.17 – then the actual cash is $1.15, if the purchase is $1.18, then the actual cash is $1.20.  Businesses can still accept the penny, they just cannot give pennies as change.  As the pennies come into the store and the banks they will be returned to the Canadian mint. Businesses can also refuse to accept the penny as it is no longer considered legal tender.

Countries such as Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway and Australia and New Zealand have successfully eliminated the penny and the United States is waiting to see what happens in Canada.

So what’s on the horizon?  Elimination of the nickel?  It’s possible.  It sure is getting expensive for a thought!

So, when I was looking through my cards, I found this “Thinking of You” card and thought it would go nicely with my blog post today.
Thinking of You Card

I created this card for a friend to let her know that I was thinking of her.  Thinking of You cards are great because you can send them to anyone at anytime to let them know that they are in your thoughts and yes, it now costs 5 cents for that thought.

As we wind down 2012, I would like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and may you have a wonderful celebration with family and friends.

As we look forward to 2013, there is Sale-a-Bration and I have a sneak peek for you.  This is a quick and easy card and can be used for just about any type of occasion.  All you have to do is change the sentiment and it can be birthday, anniversary, thinking of you, etc.

Sale-a-Bration Sneak Peek

Stamps: Madison Avenue (c – 129660, w – 129657, 2013 Sale-a-Bration Catalogue), Pretty Petites(c – 129642, w – 129639, 2013 Sale-a-Bration Catalogue

Paper: Natural White, Whisper White, Summer Starfruit, Sahara Sand, Sycamore Street DSP

Ink: Calypso Coral, Summer Starfruit

Accessories: Big Shot, Floral Frames Framelits, 1-3/4” Circle Punch, Calypso Coral Marker, Sycamore Street Ribbon, Sycamore Street Button, Simply Score Tool, Borders Scoring Plate

I used the Borders Scoring Plate and did a zig-zag effect across the bottom of the Sahara Sand and stamped with the smallest stamp in the Madison Avenue set.

This plate comes with a guide to assist you in the embossing.  A couple of things that I did find is that you need to be consistent in the pressure you apply with the stylus.

The DSP papers are made using MDS2 and printing on Whisper White card stock.

I hope you have enjoyed this sneak peek and I will be back with another one as we count down the days to the Spring Catalogue and Sale-a-Bration
