Stampin Up Cling Stamps and How To Use

Yes, cling stamps stick to your clear blocks!  In the 2019 Occasions Catalogue, Stampin Up introduced a new type of stamp.  From here on in, there will be only 2 types of stamps in the catalogues, cling stamps and photopolymer stamps.  However, don’t despair, wood mount stamps will be available until June 3, 2019 in the 2018/19 Annual Catalogue.  There is always exceptions though, the background stamps as seen on page 172 in the Annual Catalogue will be available in wood mount and cling mount.

Stampin Up Cling Stamps

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • If labels mounted properly, stamps will not fall off your clear blocks when stamping images. No more ruined stamped images!!!
  • Can be used with the Stampin’ Up! Stamparatus tool.
  • Labels are easy to mount on the grey foam backing on the stamps.

Cons:

  • Because the labels are so sticky, the stamps will cling to any surface and may go missing. Always return your cling stamps to the stamp cases after cleaning.
  • Once labels are on the stamp, they are not easily removed.  If you tug at the labels, you may separate, the foam from the stamps.

How to Care for Your Stampin Up Cling Stamps

  • Do not use StazON cleaner to clean the labels.  If there is lint or other dust and dirt on the labels wash will warm soap and water or the Simply Shammy,
  • The red rubber can be cleaned with StazOn cleaner, however, make sure that you do not get the cleaner on the label.
  • Use Stampin’ Mist Stamp cleaner along with the Stampin’ Scrub to clean the stamps.

Now, watch this video to see how to mount the labels on your Cling Stamps with ease.

You will love how the cling stamps stick to your clear blocks.

Use Brusho Crystal Colors To Create a Watercolor Scene

Have you tried the Brusho Crystal Colors from the 2018 Occasions Catalogue? Another tool to add to the watercoloring chest.  There are several different ways to use the brushos.

I have added a video so that you can see how I used the colors to add a sunset to my card. For this card, mix the brusho colors with water and apply the color with the Aqua Painter Brush.  This method allows you to control the brusho easily.  Or, somewhat easier.

The first time you add Brusho to your cards and/or scrapbook pages, it is best to practice, practice and practice.  Don’t be hard on yourself if your art piece doesn’t turn out exactly the way you would like it to look.

A few details about Brusho Crystal Colors:

  • Brusho™ is a crystal powder that interacts with water.
  • You can use a water spritzer to move the powder around. It is easier to start out with a bit of water rather than too much water. When the water hits the crystals, they burst and float on top of the cardstock and/or paper.
  • Use watercolor paper or Stampin’ Up! Shimmery White cardstock.
  • Brusho Color Crystals in 5 colors: Brilliant Red, Gamboge (orange), Moss Green, Prussian Blue and Yellow.
  • Do not remove the lids from the pots as the color crystals are very fine and will fly over everything and what a mess to clean up.  Instead us, the Paper Piercer Tool to poke holes in the lids.  Cover the holes with pin tacks.
  • When using the crystal colors, sprinkle onto your paper and spritz water or sprinkle on a block and add water and pick up with Aqua Painter Brush.

The video takes you step-by-step through the process.

The above card appears in the video.  However, I find the sky to be quite dark.  It is a case of not using enough water when mixing the Brusho™ colors to apply to the card or mixing the wrong colors together…

Brusho Crystal Colors

The card above is the one that I created as the sample and I am much happier with the sunset on this card.

As I said, you have to experiment, test, try and even then you may not get it right.  However it is art, and “art is in the eye of the beholder”.

Recipe

Stamps: Waterfront, Amazing You.

Ink/Marker: Fresh Fig, Garden Green, Tranquil Tide, Flirty Flamingo, Crushed Curry, Pool Party.

Paper: Whisper White, Fresh Fig, Crushed Curry, Watercolor Paper, Painted with Love Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Accessories: Brusho Crystal™ Colors, Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine, Aqua Painter Brush, Water, Clear Block, Paper Towel or Clean Rag.

You can see the Brusho Crystal Colors HERE.

Texturize Greeting Cards

You can now texturize greeting cards using the Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste. Embossing Paste is a new product in the 2017/18 Annual Catalogue.  In addition to the Embossing Paste, there are the Pattern Party Decorative Masks and the set of Palette Knives.

The Embossing Paste comes in a white jar with a lid.  The most important thing to remember is to ensure that the lid is on the jar when you are not using the paste. When exposed to air the Embossing Paste will dry, become hard and unusable.

You can mix the Embossing Paste with any reinker color to make your texture interesting.

Here are 2 cards that I created using the Embossing Paste.  View the video below with detailed steps to use the Embossing Paste.

Texturize Greeting Cards

A Few Details

  • Mix the Embossing Paste with Peekaboo Peach reinker.
  • Create the texture using the brick pattern
  • Stamp 2 flowers in Peekaboo Peach and then Pumpkin Pie.
  • Stamp 1 flower with So Saffron and Daffodil Delight.
  • Sponge the Peekaboo Peach layer.

Sharpen Up!

You can sharpen up your framelits and thinlits and breathe new life into them.  Do you notice that sometimes when you run your card stock through the Big Shot with a framelit or thinlit, that the paper is not cut all the way through?  This will happen to a thinlit more than a framelit due to the intricacies of the thinlit.

Sharpen UpRecipe

Stamps: Butterfly Basics, Another Thank You.

Ink/Markers: Perfect Plum.

Paper: Perfect Plum, Hello Honey, Fancy Foil Designer Vellum.

Accessories: Big Shot, Filigree Frame Embossing Folder, Butterflies Thinlits, Oval Collections Framelits, Pearl Jewels, Hello Honey 3/8” Stitched Satin Ribbon, Gold 1/8” Ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch

The Butterflies Thinlits are an example of an intricate die.  The tiny cutouts for the butterfly wings, may over time, become dull and will not cut your card stock completely.  It then becomes a hassle to get those cutouts to separate from the main die cut.

So, sharpen up!

I would love to say that I have an app for that, however I do have a video for that.

This video tells you the type of sandwich you need to make so you can get those framelits/thinlits cutting properly.

Did you know that you can also sharpen up your punches?  Punch an image several times using tinfoil.  This little tip will also get your punches to punch sharply.

I am sure that you have heard the phrase “Get Out of Jail Free Card” .  The Monopoly Board Game is celebrating an anniversary tomorrow.  The game was available for purchase in 1935 and through the years it has seen various variations and it has spanned many generations.

My “Get Our of Jail Free” card is heading to my craft room and getting lost in the stamps and inks and yes, ending up with some of that ink on my fingers.

Today, I tried out a new technique using the Fancy Fan Embossing folder.  Instead of using it the way that it was intended, I used it as a background stamp.  Just another way to use those tools your have.

Here is the card I created using my “Get Out of Jail Free Card”

Birthday Card

It may be difficult to see, the background stamp technique but it’s there on the top of the card.  The video is available at the bottom of this post

I also dyed the vanilla Flower Trim using a combination of rubbing alcohol and So Saffron ink (reinker), mixed it up in a spritzer and sprayed on the roses.  They dry really fast because of the rubbing alcohol.

Stamps: Tea Shoppe (c – 125547, w- 125545, p57 2012/2013 Annual Catalogue), Apothecary Art ( c – 125527, w- 125525, p102 2012/2013 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Whisper White, Naturals White, Sahara Sand, Sycamore Street DSP

Ink: Island Indigo, Pool Party, So Saffron

Accessories: Big Shot, Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, Versa Mark, Pool Party Embossing Powder, Sycamore Street Ribbon, Delicate Details Lace Tape, Tea Lace Paper Doilies, Vanilla Flower Trim

Here’s the video, give is a watch and try the technique

I hope that you enjoyed this technique.  Why don’t you use your “Get our of Jail Free Card”

Happy Stamping
