Social Distancing – How Are You Coping? 3 Ways to Cope
Social distancing, home bound, work from home, these are the words that we all are hearing or seeing this days.
These are just not words, but are life-saving words. So, as we self-isolate, how do we cope? Coping during these stressful times, may be stressful in itself. People are out of work, businesses are closed, kids are home from school. First of all it’s important to be kind to yourself and others around you.
Communication –
It’s important to stay in touch with our family, friends, co-workers. So, how do you do this? In this age of electronics and internet, it’s much easier than it would have been a few decades ago.
- Get on the phone and promise yourself to stay in contact with others….this also helps with mental health. Talk to those who are vulnerable like aging parents. They are also shut ins and need that human virtual touch. Make a committment to reach out to someone everyday.
Learn Something New –
we have time on our hands and remember that time when you said, ” I would like to learn ______________ (fill in the blank). Here are some suggestions:
- A second language.
- Computer program, word, excel, etc.
- New craft, card making, scrap booking, knitting, needlework. There are so many.

Be Kind to Yourself and Others –
at this time, keeping mentally healthy is so important. What are things we can do to keep ourselves mentally healthy.
- Get proper sleep…sleep is so important to our moods.
- Get outside – fresh air and sunshine is so important at this time. Go for a walk – remember to practice social distancing.
- Meditate – sit and listen to yourself breathe. This has a calming effect on our whole being.
- Read book – too much Netflix and electronic gaming is not the way to go. Practice moderation.
So practice social distancing, hand washing, stay at home unless it is really necessary to leave your home, Most of all stay safe.
