3 Tips to make your photos stand out are: proper lighting, good editing software and quality not quantity.
Since the introduction of smart phones, the number of photos we take has astronomically grown. We take the photos put do we do anything with them. So often they just remain on your phone until we get a new phone.
Today, we need to take the photos as they preserve our memories for future generations. While we preserve them, we also need to share them.
So let’s get right to it.
3 Photo Tips to Make Your Photos Stand Out
Tip #1 Ensure Great Lighting
- The key to a great photo is great lighting. No amount of editing will make a photo stand out if the lighting isn’t right.
- The best light is natural light. That is, take your pictures outside if possible. THe best time of the day is late morning or late afternoon.
- If you can’t take your photos outside, then place your subject near a light source like a window. Your light needs to come across the subject and not straight on. That is why a lighting system and a light box will help.
- The set up needs to be, light on either side of the subject, with a 3rd light which will be straight on to the subject.
Your camera needs to sit behind the lights and not in front of them. Your set up should look like a triangle.Tip #2 Editing Software
- There are a variety of editing software apps that you can get for free or a small monthly payment. However before committing to a paid app try the free version to see if it meets your needs.
- The key features of a software editing for me are:
- the ability to change the image size. So often we want to have a large number of pixels other times not so much.
- the ability to crop the photo, select whether to maintain the aspect ratio ( when lessening one pixel measurement, then the other measurement follows based on the original size),
- use different effects such as blurs, distortion, and adjustment to colour, colour balance.
- So have a play with the software before making a commitment.
I use a software called paint.net. You can download for free, there is no adds, and all they request is that you make a donation. I have used this software for about 7 or 8 years. The software is updated on a regular basis.
Tip #3 Quality not Quantity
How often do you just take pictures instead of getting the best possible shot you can? I know I do it often.
- Take your time when selecting your images whether it is images of family, landscape or anything. Taking that time will save time in the end when you are doing the editing process.
- Don’t use a flash when shooting pictures, instead rely on the the lighting.
Above all share your photos. Make them into a photo book. There are several places to go to upload your pictures and then automatically fill your book or select the images and perhaps add some wording about who what and when.
I hope you enjoyed the 3 tips for making your photos stand out .
