Apothecary Art Birthday Card – What The Heck is Apothecary
Apothecary Art – What Is It?
Before I can define Apothecary Art for you, I want to tell you a bit about the origins of the word “Apothecary”.
Apothecary refers to a person who prepares drugs and sells medicine. The term was used in Medieval Europe and is not usually used today. Today, we refer to the people who prepare and sell drugs (the legal kind) as pharmacists.
So what has Apothecary Art have to do with anything? Today, this term refers to different containers or jars that were used in storing the medicines and drugs. You have seen these jars, I am sure. It’s the shape of the bottle or jar which gives it the name Apothecary.
Look at the label on this jar? Do you remember a few years back when chalk labels were showing up everywhere? Today, these containers are used in many places throughout the home and in stores.
So, now when I show you the card, you will understand why the name of the stamp set is called Apothecary Art.
As you will notice, the image has a similar feel to the jars and bottles above.
