Photography Can Sometimes Be a Mystery
Photography a Mystery?
Photography can sometimes be a mystery. I, for one, am not an expert on photography so I am constantly looking for tips that will help me improve. Yes, I have a point and shoot and for the most part it is fool-proof however, there are times when I don’t quite get the results that I am looking for when I’m done.
So what can I do to improve my photography abilities?
So having scoured the internet, I did find a couple of sites that do have simple tips. If it gets too complicated and uses words like aperture, then my mind just glazes over.

Here are a couple of tips from this site:
- Get as close to the subject as you can. The subject needs to be the focal point whether it is a card, a person, or point of interest. It’s the details of the subject that we are interested in and not usually the surroundings (unless of course you are taking a scenic picture)
- Hold the camera vertically or horizontal. Of course that will depend upon how many subjects you are trying to get into the picture. If the picture is of a single person and it’s the person you are interested in and not the surroundings then hold the camera vertical. Where there are 3 or more subjects in your picture, horizontal is good.
- Try not to take your pictures in direct sunlight. Usually, they will have a glare and will often wash out the colour. This doesn’t mean to say that you can’t take pictures in sunlight, just be careful on how you position your subject.
I hope these few tips will help you in the future and take some of the mystery out of photography.
If in doubt, use photo enhancing software. That sometimes helps for those of us that can’t quite seem to get the hang of it.
Happy Photography!
