Happy Birthday Princess Belle

What could be better than a Happy Birthday Princess Belle card for my granddaughter?  Sarah turned 7 yesterday and today is having Princess Ariel at her birthday party.  Lucky her!!!   All little girls seemed to be enamored with the Disney Princesses and Sarah is no exception.

Why is there that fascination?  Is it because of the good and pure that surround the princesses and the belief that a Prince would come along? Walt Disney contributed to the concept through his animation of the princesses – first it was Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs in 1937 followed by Cinderella (1950) and Sleeping Beauty (1959).  More recently, we have seen Ariel, the Little Mermaid and Belle from the Beauty and the Beast come to life.

The one thing in common with these princesses is they all want a prince in their life and live happily ever after. There is something to be said about believing in the “Happily Ever After”.  Our world is full of sadness and grief so why not as a child hold those beliefs close to our hearts.

So, here is the Happy Birthday Princess Belle card.

Happy Birthday Princess Belle

Recipe

Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners (c – 126257 w- 132022, p30 2013/14 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Whisper White, So Saffron, Strawberry Slush, Raspberry Ripple, Gumball Green, Birthday Basic DSP

Ink: Raspberry Ripple

Accessories: Big Shot, Dressup Framelits, Bitty Banners Framelits, Oval Collection Framelits, Vine Emboss Folder (2013 SAB), Pearl Jewels, Blossom Petal Punch (retired), Scallop Trim Border Punch, Dazzling Details, Stickles (other)

Belle’s dress was created using the Dressup Framelit Dies and cut extra skits to make the dress fuller and longer.  An underlay of Whisper White created the underpinning to the dress.  The sleeves were cut off the dress to become the “off the shoulder” addition.

If you notice the Raspberry Ripple oval die cut has an embossed look.  This was created by turning the next size down from the oval collection, aligning it on the Raspberry Ripple oval upside down (cutting edges are on the top) and run through the Big Shot – just another way to use your framelits.

So if you have a princess in your life, why not create a Happy Birthday Princess Belle card for her.

The Christmas Elf Shoes

I am sure by now everyone has seen the Christmas Elf Shoes card.  If you haven’t seen or made this card, it’s a fun and easy card to do.  Actually this card was done at the Christmas card class that was held a couple of weeks ago.

Just a bit of housekeeping before I go on.  “Happy Thanksgiving” to my US family and friends.  I really hope you enjoy the day celebrating with your families and friends and of course that so well prepared turkey dinner.

Christmas Elf Shoes

 Recipe

Stamps: That’s the Ticket (c – 128075 w- 131946, p33 2013/14 Annual Catalogue)

Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Seasons of Style Paper Pack, Champagne Glimmer Paper

Ink: Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler

Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder, Old Olive 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon, Deco Labels Framelits, Ticket Duo Builder Punch, 3/4” Circle Punch, 1/2″ Circle Punch, Five Petal Punch (retired), 1-3/4″ Circle Punch, Season of Style Washi Tape

 A few details

The elf shoes are created from the Top Note die and cut in half length wise.  The toes of his shoes are made using the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch and punching on an angle about 1/2 way down the front.  To cut the other side so that you have a left and right shoe, turn the strip over and punch.   Then cut the punched card stop in half to get two shoes.  Take the 1/2 ” Circle punch and scoop out the top of the shoe and attach the leg.

To make the decoration at the top of his shoes, punch a flower from the 5 Petal Flower punch and trim away two petals ( do this twice) and attach to top of shoes.

All shoes, shoe trim and Old Olive panel is sponged with Crumb Cake to give interest and dimension.

The mat for the sentiment was punched from Cherry Cobbler card stock and cut in half lengthwise and attached to the sentiment so a bit of the mat peaked out from behind the top and bottom

Star Wars Making a Comeback?

Star Wars is making a resurgence having gained popularity in the late 1970′s and 80′s. We have Darth Vader, Yoda, R2D2,3CPO that we know and love (well at least some of us) and now there are even more characters.

So where am I going with this?  Well, Star Wars is making its way into the second generations’ hearts.  The children of the parents who were first introduced to Star Wars are helping to regain its popularity.  My now 5 year old grandson is among them.  Of course, it’s with help of his parents.

Sagan with his Star Wars Birthday Cake – Celebrating 5 years.

I hope that you have the punches that I used to create Darth Vader and Yoda as some are retired (the tag punch and the 5-petal flower punch.  However, you could substitute the square punch and clip off the corners for the tag punch and the leaves on the Bird Builder punch for the 5-petal flower punch.

Don’t have the Square punch, purchase it HERE.

At some we decide to take the plunge and be done with the corporate world.  No more rat race, no more getting up and rushing to work, only to rush home and do the same thing again tomorrow.

Most people who decide to retire (and yes, there are some that don’t retire for various reasons), will tell you that it was the best thing that ever happened to them.  I know I’m loving mine.

A friend decided to take that next step in her life and just do the things that she wants to do, likes to do, or maybe will find things that she never thought she could do.

One area that she is most interested in is quilting and yes, she does beautiful work.  That is one craft that I have never tried….maybe some day…or maybe in my dreams.

So, the card I created for her, uses the premise of making a quilt.  Ok, I tried.
