Simple Yet Elegant Card

Words that describe simple yet elegant are restrained, graceful, refined, tasteful. It’s using the various elements in harmony with each other. It’s also timeless.  So often we use elements that are the in vogue and will not stand the test of time.

So that is what I set out to do.

Create a simple yet elegant card with these hints. To get started decide:

  • The main colour.  In this card, my main colour was Sweet Sugar Plum. Rich Razzleberry and Emerald Envy are strong colours that compliment the Sweet Sugar Plum.
  • The stamp set. The only stamping on this card is the sentiment.
  • How much and where to position the focal point or, in other words, where does your eye go first..  The focal point on this card is the group of flowers and leaves cut with the Flourish Thinlits.
  • Finally, decide on embellishments, if any.  The embellishments are simply the strip of natural trim with silver accents and the very vanilla lace.

Simple yet Elegant

Recipe

Stamps: Floral Phrases

Ink/Markers: Rich Razzleberry

Paper: Whisper White, Sweet Sugar Plum, Rich Razzleberry, Emerald Envy, Silver Glimmer Paper.

Accessories: Big Shot, Detailed Floral Thinlits, Flourish Thinlits, Tags and Labels Framelits, Whisper White Thick Baker’s Twine, 1/4” Silver Natural Ribbon, Very Vanilla 1/2” Lace Trim.

What are the steps you follow when creating a design? What is your style?  Is it simple yet elegant, or do you like to incorporate many elements into your card?

Wedding Card For A Special Couple

A wedding card for a young couple starting out in a new life together is so very special. The bride choose purples and whites for her wedding, so why not use those same colours as a jumping off point for the card.  And that is exactly what I did.

I know that Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities are no longer available for purchase, but I do use them from time to time.  I am so sorry that they had to discontinue selling these as they do a perfect job of colouring images.  Boo Hoo!  Maybe some day, SU will bring this beautiful product into our stamping world again.

Wedding Card IMG_0921Recipe

Stamps: Birthday Blooms, Petite Pairs, Balloon Celebrations.

Ink/Markers: Wisteria Wonder, Wisteria Wonder Blendabilities, Wild Wasabi Blendabilities, Old Olive Blendabilities, Daffodil Delight Blendabilities, Soft Suede, VersaMark,Tuxedo Black.

Paper: Whisper White Thick, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White, Neutral DSP Stack (Silver Diagonal Stripes), Botanical Blooms Vellum (2016 Sale-a-Bration),

Accessories: Blender Pens, White Tea Lace Paper Doily, Metallic Foil Doilies (large Silver), Wisteria Wonder Seam Binding Ribbon, Silver Emboss Powder, Washi Tape, White Gel Pen.

The Botanical Vellum was layered over the Wisteria Wonder panel.  The treatment of coloured card stock behind vellum really brings on the design.  This Botanical Vellum is available in the Sale-a-Bration catalogue as a Free gift with the purchase of $60 CDN.

The silver striped paper comes from the Neutral Designer Paper Stack.  With the addition of the white Tea Lace Paper Doily and the Silver Metallic Foil Doily, the flower just is front and center.

Sometimes I decorate the inside of the card as I did with this one.  I must do this treatment more often as it does really add to the card.  I used the row of hearts and the flower from the stamp set and stamped them in Wisteria Wonder.

I am so pleased how this wedding card turned out and I am sure the bride and groom will be just as pleased.

Don’t forget Sale-a-Bration.  See the beautiful products that are available for FREE just by ordering $60 from any of the catalogues.

Happy Wedding Day

A Happy Wedding Day is something that the bride and groom look forward to for their big day.  It’s a day that can be filled with excitement and joy.  However, the little slip up can become a source of frustration for the day.  While we try to plan for each and every event, sometimes things just slip through the cracks.

Because the wedding day is filled with hopes and dreams, the happy couple want everything to go perfect and according to the plan.

The happy wedding day is most about controlling the nerves.  To help with that day, I made a monochromatic colour wedding card.  Monochromatic colours can be soothing and so I choose to use Whisper White and Sahara Sand with a touch of gold.

Happy Wedding DayHappy Wedding DayRecipe for the Happy Wedding Day card

Stamps: Beautiful Bunch, Flower Shop, Petite Petals, For the New Two, Kinda Eclectic.

Ink/Markers: Sahara Sand, Versamark.

Paper: Whisper White, Sahara Sand, Gold Glitter, Something Borrowed DSP.

Accessories: Big Shot, Lots of Labels Framelits, Elegant Dots Embossing Folder, Fun Flower Punch, Pansy Punch, Petite Labels Punch, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, White Jute 1-1/4” Jute Ribbon, Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine, Sahara Sand 7/8” Lace Trim, Watercolor Wonder Washi Tape, Gold Embossing Powder, Metallic Foil Doilies, Pearl Jewels.

I had so much fun making this Happy Wedding Day Pop Up Card.

Click on the link below for a tutorial to make the cuts for the cake:

2015-09-09 Pop Up Card

To finish the cake, I cut pieces of Whisper White card stock the same size as the cake layers.  Emboss these pieces with the Elegant Dots Embossing Fold and decorate with Gold Glitter hearts.

For the front of the card:

Stamp the leaves from Kinda Eclectic on the Whisper White card stock using Sahara Sand.  I stamped off once before stamping on the card stock.

Stamp the flowers using Sahara Sand ink and punch using the matching punch.  Curl up the petals a bit before layering together with Dimensionals.

Place a small Metallic Foil Doily behind the flower using Glue Dots.

Pull strands from the Jute Ribbon to create the whispies behind the flower.  Attach using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  Loop a length of Metallic Gold Baker’s Twine and attach over the Jute Ribbon. Place a length of Tear and Tape tape to hold the ribbon and the twine and attach the flower using glue dots.

The last step was to create the sentiment:

Stamp with Versa Mark and emboss with Gold Emboss Powder on Whisper White card stock. Die cut using the Lots of Labels Framelits.  I trimmed off the top and bottom of the framelit to make the sentiment a little smaller.  Finally, attach the flower to the bottom of sentiment and add Pearl Jewel.

What do you think of this Happy Wedding Day card?  Leave me a comment. I welcome all comments – good, bad and the ugly.

I was inspired by “creative stamping” to make this card.

 Wedding Card In A Bag

Have you ever given a wedding card in a bag?  I thought I would create something different for an up coming wedding.

This year, Stampin’ Up! introduced the Glassine Sheets.  Glassine sheets are translucent with a wax paper-like feeling.  They are resistant to grease, air and water, which makes them an excellent choice for paper crafting.

This was my first time using the glassine sheets to create a project. I was quite pleased that the sheets were easy to work with.

Wedding Card in a BagWedding Card in a BagRecipe

Stamps: For the New Two.

Ink/Markers: Stazon Black, Watermelon, Soft Sky, Old Olive.

Paper: Whisper White, Calypso Coral, Sahara Sand, 2015-17 In Color DSP Stack (watermelon floral), Fancy Foil Designer Vellum, White Vellum Cardstock, Gold Foil, Glassine Sheets.

Accessories: Big Shot, Lovely Lace Embossing Folder, Gift Card Envelope & Trim Thinlits, Mini Treat Bag Thinlit, Lots of Labels Thinlits, Gold Metallic Thread, Calypso Coral Seam Binding Ribbon, Whisper White Baker’s Twine, Sahara Sand 7/8” Lace Trim, 1/8” Gold Trim, Mini Metallic Clothespins.

The wedding card in a bag was die cut using the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit and then constructed normally.  For adhesive, I used Mini-Glue Dots.  After the treat bag/envelope was together, I embossed the whole thing with the Lovely Lace Embossing Folder.

How did I do the wedding card in a bag once I had the bag together.

I placed a piece of Sahara Sand card stock in the wedding card bag to write a message to the happy couple.  This also helps to make the bag less transparent. The bag is wrapped with a piece of Calypso Coral Seam Binding Ribbon and Sahara Sand Lace Trim.

To make the tag, a piece of the Watermelon flowered designer paper from the 2015-17 In Color Designer Paper Stack was die cut with the Lots of Labels Thinlits and squared off at the bottom. A piece of Fancy Foil Velum (gold hearts) paper was die cut the same size.  The sentiment, flowers and leaves were stamped in Black Stazon ink.  The flowers were coloured with Soft Sky and Calypso Coral markers and the leaves coloured with Old Olive markers. These were fussy cut and placed onto the tag.  A Gold Foil heart was die cut with the heart from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit. Finally, a length of the Gold Metallic Thread was looped and placed behind the heart.

The gift card holder was made using the same DSP as the tag and cut with the Gift Card Envelope & Trim Thinlits.  This can be tucked into the wedding card in a bag and the bag held closed with the Mini Metallic Clothespin.

Would you make a Wedding card in a bag as a gift and card for a couple that are getting married? For a more traditional wedding card, see this POST.

Today, we are attending a Wedding Reception for my Nephew and his New Bride.  They were married early in June in Jasper and now they are home for a visit so that everyone can meet and congratulate them.

When I was at Convention 2012 in July, Sara Douglas, presented a stamping demonstration around jars, and this was one of her creations.  When I saw it, I immediately thought of a gift for the reception.

Although she didn’t demonstrate it, I managed to get a picture and from there recreate what I saw.

I had so much fun with this and while it took some trial and error as I had no instructions has to how big everything was cut, in the end I am very pleased with the whole gift.

Stamps: Forever With You (c – 126727, w – 122890 p. 132 2012-2013 AC)
Paper: Very Vanilla, Summer Starfruit, Basic Grey, Basic Black, First Edition DSP, Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP, Patio Party DSP
Ink: Stazon Black
Accessories: Big Shot, Oval Accent Bigz Clear Die, Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die, Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die, Delicate Doilies Sizzlits L, Paper Doily Sizzlits L, Scallop Circle Big Z Die, Polka Dots Emboss Folder,  Corner Punch, Small Heart Punch, 1-3/4” Scallop Circle Punch, Rhinestone Jewels, Silver Glimmer Paper, Chip Board, White Bakers Twine (Dyed with Basic Black Ink), Linen Thread, Crochet Trim, Other: Glass Jar, White Dowels, Strip of Plastic Bag, Candy

In this close up, you can see the butterfly, which I cut out using Chip Board and the Beautiful Butterflies Die and then cut out 2 pieces of the Patio Party DSP and glued them to the Chip Board.  I filed the edges to make them smooth and then ran a Summer Starfruit marker around the edges.

I cut 2 strips of the First Edition DSP, so that the circle, when finished would be large and full enough.  The size of the paper is 12″ by 5-1/2″ and this seemed to work.  And yes, the Silicone Mat came in real handy for this project.

I managed to obtain a picture of the happy couple and made a slide card.  This the first one I had ever made so there was some trial and error going on with this, however persevering really pays off.  On one side of the slider, I put the congrats message and then on the other side, I attached a gift card.

Finally, I attached a Doily on each side of the jar, circled the jar with a strip of First Edition DSP, and tied the whole think up with Linen Thread.

Then the newly weds got their own pot of gold.  I put a piece of oasis in the jar so that I could insert the dowels and they wouldn’t fall over.  The wrapped candy hides all the oasis and makes a nice pot of gold.

I hope you enjoy this, because I sure did while I was creating it.
